Sustaining Momentum: Addressing Structural Racism in Pharmacy and Our Community Today and Tomorrow. The word “racism” is often feared. It evokes images of overt hatred, abuse, and discrimination. Most people would quickly and vehemently deny that they participate in any form of racism in their daily lives. But it’s not that simple; racist policies, practices, behaviors, and other norms are often hidden and ingrained in society’s institutions where we may least expect to see it, like the health care system, the pharmacy profession and communities we live in. This systemic racism impacts the health outcomes of our patients, as well as the personal and professional lives of those within the pharmacy profession.
