Steven Chen, PharmD, FASHP, FCSHP, FNAP
Dr. Steven Chen is Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the USC School of Pharmacy, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, and the William A. Heeres and Josephine A. Heeres Chair in Community Pharmacy. He is PI or Co-I for over $18 million in grant-funded research evaluating the impact of Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM) on healthcare quality, safety, cost, and patient and physician satisfaction, including a $12 million CMMI Healthcare Innovation Award. He is founder of the California Right Meds Collaborative (CRMC), a partnership between health plans, community pharmacies, and pharmacy schools in California providing CMM through a value-based payment model, partially supported by a $3 million CDC 1817 Wellness grant throught the LA County Department of Public Health.
He and his team have been awarded the Best Practices Award from ASHP twice, the American Pharmacists Association Pinnacle Award, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Inaugural Community Transformative Award. He received the USC School of Pharmacy Outstanding Alumnus of the Year Award, American Pharmacists Association Pinnacle Award for individual career achievement, Exemplar Innovator Award from the UCSF Center for Excellence in Primary Care and Center for Care Innovation, American Heart Association Multicultural Initiatives Award, Schweitzer Fellowship Leadership Award, California Society of Health System Pharmacists Innovator Award, CSHP Pharmacist of the Year, and Leadership Award from the Right Care Initiative. In 2016 Dr. Chen and his colleagues were among 23 innovations in California to be featured at the Department of Health and Human Services Let’s Get Healthy event. He was recognized by CMS for his collaboration with The Partnership for Public Service that contributed to 87,000 lives saved, 2.1 million fewer patinet harms, and $19.8 billion in cost savings. In 2017 Dr. Chen received a 3rd APhA Pinnacle Award through his partnership with CMMI.
