Jennifer D. Smith graduated from Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and completed a primary care residency with a specialty in diabetes management through Campbell University and Wilson Community Health Center in eastern North Carolina. Following her training, Dr. Smith spent 14 years in the field of academia as an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner in a Federally Qualified Community Health Center with prescribing authority for managing diabetes and its comorbid disease states, and the Residency Director for an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists-accredited residency training program. Most recently, Dr. Smith joined the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where she serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist.
Dr. Smith has served the profession of pharmacy in multiple capacities. She has been recognized for teaching excellence, devotion to the care of patients with diabetes, and counseling patients. She has served as Chair of the APhA Diabetes Management Special Interest Group, Chair of the APhA Diabetes Certificate Training Program, and as a member of the BPS Specialty Council for Ambulatory Care which worked to create the first BCACP exam. Dr. Smith is actively engaged in educating health care professionals in diabetes management at a local, state, and national level.
